What Affects the Cost?

1. The Type of Glass

Not all glass is created equal.

Depending on where the glass is located, Australian safety requirements may require specific types of glass.

The most common types we install include:

  • Float glass

  • Toughened safety glass

  • Laminated safety glass

  • Double-glazed units

One of the first things we check during every inspection is the glass type. Installing the wrong glass isn't just poor workmanship—it can create safety risks and result in the job needing to be redone.

2. The Size of the Glass

Larger panes naturally require more material and often need additional labour to handle and install safely.

Custom-sized glass also needs to be manufactured specifically for your window, which affects both price and lead time.

3. The Condition of the Frame

Sometimes the glass isn't the problem.

If the timber frame has extensive rot, or the frame has deteriorated beyond repair, replacing the glass alone may not be the best long-term solution.

One of our priorities is giving honest advice. If repairing the existing window makes financial sense, we'll recommend that. If replacement is the better investment, we'll explain why.

4. Safety Requirements

Bathrooms, doors, low-level windows and many commercial buildings require safety glass.

Using standard glass where safety glass is required can create serious safety issues.

Unfortunately, we've attended jobs where incorrect glass had previously been installed by someone without the right glazing knowledge. Those jobs often end up costing homeowners more because the glass has to be replaced again with the correct product.

5. Emergency Repairs

Accidents don't always happen during business hours.

Whether it's storm damage, vandalism or a break-in, emergency glazing work may involve temporary boarding, after-hours call-outs and expedited glass orders.

If replacement glass isn't immediately available, we can provide a secure board-up service until the new glass arrives.
